Borusan Asım Kocabıyık Technical and Industrial Vocational High School received the “Rookie Inspiration Award” at the ‘First Robotics Competition Midwest’ organized in Chicago with the support of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA.
Thousands of schools and hundreds of thousands of youngsters from all around the world participate in the First competitions organized for 20 years to increase the interest of students in science and discovery and to make them focus on technological development. 3 out of the 53 schools that were entitled to participate in the First Robotics Competition Midwest which is one of the first organizations held this year were from Turkey. Borusan Asım Kocabıyık Technical and Industrial Vocational High School which is the only state school among them returned to our country with a special award.
After a long and difficult preparation process, Borusan Asım Kocabıyık Technical and Industrial Vocational High School team developed a robot playing basketball in the framework of the rules announced by NASA TV and the kit sent by the competition board. The team manufactured some of the parts not found in Istanbul and was appreciated by the competition jury and the participants. However, as developing the robot with parts manufactured by students and teachers was against the competition rules, the robot was re-built with parts delivered by the competition committee on the night before the basketball matches started. The effort of the team during the whole process played an important role in making a difference among the competitors.
The performance of the robot prepared by Borusan Asım Kocabıyık Technical and Industrial Vocational High School team on the competition was a proof of the success of our students and teachers. The robot, developed for defense and assist, competed in 10 games. After two tiring days full of fun, the Borusan team was given the “Rookie Inspiration Award” for both its success and continuous team spirit as well as friendship among the team members at the booths.
We wish continued success for our team…
